• Develop standard procedures for review and assessment of applications for authorisation or licensing and enforcement procedures;
• Develop safety standards documents ;
• Develop of technical institutional policy documents;
• Implement regulatory functions of Radiation Protection Authority (RPA) to ensure compliance with the national and international safety requirements;
• Review and assesse applications for authorization and licensing of facilities using radiation sources (radioactive materials, nuclear materials and radiation emitting devices;
• Inspect radiotherapy centre, hospitals, industrial irradiator, and all other facilities using nuclear and radiation sources throughout the country to verify compliance with safety requirements;
• Perform quality control (QC) tests of X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) scanners, mammography and general x-ray equipment used in medicine and non-medical use;
• Perform wipe testing (radiation surveys) of devices with sealed sources to determine radiation levels ;
• Take enforcement actions on licensees and facilities that do not comply with safety requirements;
• Monitor individual or external radiation sources
• Conduct radiation safety training;
• Develop policies and strategies for the institution;
• Review legal and regulatory framework of the institution;
• Develop safety guides for users of radiation sources in the country;
• Conduct annual self-assessment of the regulatory body;
• Develop and implementation of emergence preparedness and response plan
• Monitor and evaluate RPA projects
• Monitor and evaluate International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) projects
• Coordinate specific RPA and IAEA national projects.
• Conduct environmental monitoring for radioactivity
